Firm in decision to get up in the dark this morning and head off before 8am (sunrise is at 8.36am) and chase a sunrise over at the RSPB reserve at Baldoon . . . it was freezing
(0 degrees) with a heavy frost and ice on the roads.
After waiting and watching and freezing half to death the beautiful sunrise arrived, enjoyed the cygnets who now all over the UK have been tossed out of home by their parents and are making their own way in the world.
Over to the Bird Hide at Wigtown Harbour where we were so fortunate to meet volunteer wildlife warden 'Derek' who made our day and showed us 2 very rare ducks through his telescope. Also fortunate to see a 'wildfowler' coming back in from what looked like a good bag (geese) It's wildfowling season here at the moment (not on the RSPB reserves of course!) and shooting is not permitted on Sundays.
Another day we will pack a lunch and thermos and spend hours at the hide, it's marvellous! Love being an amateur 'twitcher'. On the way home stopped off at what is now a favourite place for lunch (the Bayview Bistro) so named because of the fabulous view!
