Friday was sunny so we headed of to explore around Kirkdale Estate. We were soon looking over the beautiful 'A' listed bridge at the Kirkdale burn tumbling it's way down into Wigtown Bay.

Kirkdale House has been the home of the Hannay family for around 500 years and though much of the house has been converted into flats, the Hannays still occupy a wing.
The estate was awash with snowdrops (it's Snowdrop Festival tme) as we walked around and up past the Robert Adam designed mansion.

There was an interesting copy of Rodin's 'The Thinker' in the garden created by the late Japanese sculptor Hideo Furuto.

We made our way round the walled garden and up to Kirkdale Mains farm - beautiful old buildings but becoming very neglected, sad to see.
Walking back towards the house we were greeted with the sight of early flowering Rhododendrons.

After leaving the estate we walked back to the car and after a wee short drive we stopped by the water driven sawmill on the Kirkdale burn. It was closed for the winter but we stopped to have a look around.

Next we took the top road that goes over to Laggan, passed Barholm tower house and stopped for our coffee overlooking Fleet Bay and the islands.

Back on the move we got back on the A75 and took a run down to the pretty little beach at Mossyard.

A short run along the A75 again brought us to Carsluith where we took a run up past Bagbie and high into the hills just short of Cambrett Farm.
Views across to the KIrkmabreck Quarries and over Wigtown Bay were extensive.

Nearly home....

PS: Did you notice how different the writing style was in this post? Well, in all honesty Iborrowed it from J's narrative.
